Tired and Lazy

life, shabandar, tuaran beach resort, work

I’m so lazy to write for the past few days… or a week. It was quite tiring to be part of our organizing committee for our annual workshop. Last Wednesday, 28 November 2007, I went to Tuaran Beach Resort. I followed Darius’ VIGO 4×4. I left the office around 1PM for home to do my packing. I have not pack a single item for the 3 days workshop… which ended on Saturday, 1 December 2007… which happened to be the opening of the F2000 Speed Boat challenge at Kota Kinabalu.

Darius picked me just after 2PM. I have not taken my lunch so we stopped at Lido to buy ‘goreng pisang’… wanted to take-away KFC, but the resort is providing lunch. And of course while at Lido, I bought some JackPot at TOTO which did not strike any prize 🙁

Then we detour to KPIM Complex to take some of the workshop materials to take along with us.

We arrived at the Tuaran Beach Resort around 4PM… and straight away dived into the food! Two other colleagues arrived almost at the same time with us. They are in charge of the accommodations and we will be in charge of multimedia/sound/photography.

After the workshop, I have loads of works waiting at the office… all are last-minutes request… that caused me more lazy to write… anyway, I will do some photo posting of our workshop later.

Something unexpected… a buffalo (or kerbau or kalabau) running across the road dragging along some trees hooked on its rope which is tied on its neck. Then we saw a bunch of people inside a truck chasing after it… they must be going to slaughter the buffalo.

The journey…

The challenging 2KM journey…

Tomorrow is going to be a long day

blog, life, work

I will be in two meetings for the whole day tomorrow. In the morning, it’s going to start from 9.00am until 1.00pm. Lucky, breakfast at 8.00am and lunch at 1.00pm will be provided, so I don’t have to use my credit cards since it will be held in a 5* hotel. In the evening, there will be another meeting from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. And both meeting are… I’ll say ‘crucial’… hopefully there will be no ‘firing’… else I just turn to ‘excusy’ mode or ‘keras kepala’ mode… or worse turn to ‘screen saver’ mode…

Back-up data without plan… until plan C + plan D

blog, work

My plan C fail… there were still “toing toing”. Since there was no one interacting with the notebook last night in the office, the process was halted till I reach the office today.

So, this time I made another plan… Plan D. I installed the SyncToy into the new notebook. This will cut 1 process compared to Plan C. I mapped the shared folder in the old notebook into the new notebook. Then I fired SyncToy, created the profile and run it. It went smoothly… until the “toing” appears again. I fixed the “long file name” on the old notebook and re-run the SyncToy… until everything transfered… clap clap clap… wasted almost the whole day checking the notebooks from time to time  to see if it got “toing”…

Back-up data without plan… until plan C

blog, work

Today someone asked me to backup or transfer his data from his old notebook to his new notebook. I did not expect some unexpected crop up…

Plan A… I setup both notebook on a network so it can talk to each other. Shared the whole D drive of the old notebook. Old notebook running on XP and the new notebook running on Vista. Explore the old notebook from the new notebook and “drag & drop” all the shared contents into Backup folder in new notebook. It took more than 3 hours to complete the transfer of the 40GB data. The network is running at 100mbps… if I used the WiFi, I think the process will take 8 hours… unfortunately some 90 files were not transfered because their file name are too long… and the worst part, the Vista only tell me there are 90 files not tranfered… damm… there are thousands of files and folder, how am I going to compare the contents in the shortest time.

Plan B… I said, forget about that… I’m going to transfer the file into Network Attached Storage (NAS). Luckily, my 1TB Maxtor NAS arrived yesterday. So, from the old notebook, I just “drag & drop” the contents into the network drive…. unfortunately, the same problem occur… double damm…

Plan C… I remember I have SyncToy in my notebook. From my notebook, I mapped the shared folder from both notebook as drive P: and drive O: on my notebook. Then I fired SyncToy and create a profile to make a mirror image of drive P: to drive O:. Run the profile… cool it’s running very fast… then “toing”… the windows error message appears telling me file x has too long name… so I went to the old notebook and rename it. Then re-run the SyncToy. The “toing” repeated a few more times and I fix the files name everytime it “toing”. I left it running… since it’s already 6.30pm and I need to rush to buy 4D… I just left it running in the office… We’ll see tomorrow if it works….

New double cabin for the office

work

Yesterday, I went to collect our office new double cabin truck. It is Nissan Frontier 2.5D. It has manual transmission… meaning I have to re-call on how to drive with it since I’ve left manual tranmission for almost 7 years…

It will be shared among us in the office when we have to do our jobs outside the office… like visiting clients office or project sites. From now on, I should be able to save on petrol money since I always use my own car when doing jobs outside.

Attended seminar about something to do with the culture in email usage last Wednesday (September 26) at the Pan Pacific Sutera, Kota Kinabalu.

There are 5 papers presented… when it reaches to paper number 3, everyone lost energy I guess… including me of course but I’m strong… 8)

The handouts… agenda, evaluation…

Camera men during the opening… then come paper 3, everyone in front of my table are falling down…

I wasn’t spared… but I’m OK, manage to stay until it finished at 3.30pm

I guess everyone are so bored that they imagining the chandelier is UFO… and look at how I evaluate, paper 3 is the worst, I wanted to put 1, but I’m not that mean… lucky 4th paper is from Microsoft 8) then lunch.

The 70-296 exams include planning and implementing the Microsoft Windows Server 2003. And 70-551 is an upgrade from MCAD skills to MCPD. Both of these as well as the 70-443 can be prepared online. For the preparation of 70-620 that is an exam for the new MCTS: Windows Vista Client certification, the official website of Microsoft offers several guidelines for the beginners.
