Yesterday, final decision has to be made… which technology to use for the up coming system development. As usual, Microsoft will be the number one choice… for me… unless able to ‘convince’ that the alternative is much better… ASP or ASP.NET… C#.NET or VB.NET… After deciding to try on ASP.NET with C#.NET… from no where, a voice…  ‘You don’t want to try Ruby on Rails?’… ‘WHAT?!!!’.. ‘You have to kill me if you want to do that!!!’…

I wanted to try Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 since I got a trial copy during the Microsoft TechNet & MSDN Conference in January… then during the Microsoft HEROES HAPPEN {HERE} last week, Microsoft is really pushing for it together with the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008. Looks like we have to try it… hopefully the learning curve is shorter

When someone is away from their home no matter if it is for a short or long period, the first thing that will strike them is homesick. And this sickness is capable to infect anyone out there. There is no medicine from the lab in this world capable to cure this type of sickness at the moment, not even the strongest anti depression pills.

Young students who left home to stay at boarding school or to further their studies overseas are the most vulnerable to this homesick sickness. If not treated well with the right method or tool, it will affect their studies tremendously… and sometimes it cause innocent life.

The only cure for this sickness is to let them talk to their family back home. Before, the only means for them to communicate with their family is through letter or snail mail. But today, all kind of phone services are available for them to cure this sickness. Although phone is the most effective tool to cure this sickness, it doesn’t come cheap when the distance becomes further or when the communication becomes longer. On Thursday (24th April 2008), I attended Microsoft’s HEROES HAPPEN HERE { } CONFERENCE at Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu. They presented 2 tracks, Sales Track and Technical Track, from 9.00am to 5.00pm which runs at the same time.

Normally I will attend Technical Track, but this time I choose to attend the Sales Track. It’s not that I want to become a salesman or wanted to start a business… well, maybe one day Two reasons, first I want to taste what is Sales Track about and who knows what the sales people presented to us later are not what Microsoft told them. Secondly, the topics are more interesting in Sales Track like licensing, Visual Studio 2008…

On Monday till Wednesday (21st - 23rd April 2008), I was attending a course. It’s about online backup for data centre. The tool is CA XOsoft™ WANSync™HA. It’s a great tools, it works by backing-up the data online through wide area network. But the price is cool, the tool alone is about $20k and you will need a pair for every server to backup.

The biggest power outage in Sabah yesterday was caused by a collapsed of a high-tension pylon or tower in Inanam. The tower collapsed after about 20 pieces of its supporting bar were removed or stolen by scrap metal thieves.

The tower is surrounded with jungle in a hilly area and there are many PTI or Pendatang Tampa Izin or Illegal Immigrants squatters surrounding the area. Your guess is as good as mine…

We have been promised with empty promises of getting rid of these Illegal Immigrants and until now there is no concrete action. And this is the results when the authorities are not honoring their promises. Murder, kidnapping, rape, smuggling, robbery, guns…
