CIO Conference

work

I was attending a conference in the past 2 days… 3 – 4 July 2007. Its for the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the State Government Departments & Agencies. The theme is eGovernment for eService Delivery. I was attending as an ICT participant… so I’m not a CIO 🙂 It was held in The Pacific Sutera, Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The resorts consist of resort, golf, marina, spa and country club.

The ‘i’ in the iGoverment represents information, innovative and intelligent. And the ‘e’ in the eService represents excellent, efficient and effective.

There were 9 papers presented. Five papers were presented on the first day and 4 papers on the second day. Most of the papers presented are very relevant… except for 1 or 2 papers which are more on commercial or promotions of products… the products are either I already using or having the same product with other operator or brand.

During the Panel Discussion Session, I really like… or excited with the last word from one of the panel… from the Director (Sabah & Labuan Region) of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) when he shared about the launching of a new office of one of the country’s cellular operator, DiGi. The new DiGi’s office consists of only 1 large room or hall. Inside the ‘hall’ are tables and chairs… only!… and WiFi!. They do not have rooms but one single large hall. Anyone can ‘park’ at any of the table to do their works… including the CEO, not exempted! Everyone carries their own notebook… wow, that is soooo cool yea… imagine that!

After 2 exhausting days of workshop… we will continue with the CIO Meeting tomorrow!!! I will attend as an observer for the CIO Meeting in the morning… then, after lunch, I will be attending the Technical Meeting…. waaaa….

Here are the pictures I’ve taken. I used my Casio Exilim EX-S500, so don’t expect very good quality pictures…

My colleagues… they are camera shy!

The conference’s brochure and handouts.

The final session of the conference: Panel Discussion Session in progress.

yeaaa… I got my certificate…. wuhuuu…..

I did not steal them… me and friend ‘rip it off’ after the TechEd 2003 at Putra World Trade Center. I’m sure everyone like to have a piece from any occasion as a souvenir… right 😉 I stick it at my office glass wall.

Check out what I found in the store room and behind the cupboard… My Microsoft TechEd bags!

And they are full of dust… poor bags. I never used them after TechEds. But now, it has been cleaned and pack into plastic bag so no dust will attack them again 🙂

TechEd 2007 SEA bag… its still OK 🙂
TechEd 2004 Malaysia bag… and its not OK, the straps are rotten… disintegrated 🙁
TechEd 2003 Malaysia bag… and its still OK 🙂

These are the kids doing the Operation Cleaning Microsoft Bags! 😉 They are my nephews.

And I also found this bag… I won this bag in the www.msn.com.my some years back, I have 2 of them 😉 So, I gave the kids one each 🙂

Solid State Disk (SSD) – what izzit?

tech

My previous posting was about Solid State Disk or SSD. But what exactly is SSD? What components do SSD has? What it made of? After doing some research on the net, these are the info I gathered:

A solid state drive is primarily a data storage device, for use in computing applications that traditionally use a hard disk drive with a spinning disk or platter. A solid state drive is based on either non-volatile memory or volatile memory instead of the spinning platter and mechanical-magnetic head found in a conventional hard disk drive.

With no moving parts, a solid state drive eliminates seek time, latency and other electro-mechanical delays and failures associated with a conventional hard disk drive. SSD is a high-performance plug-and-play storage device that contains no moving parts. SSD components include either DRAM or EEPROM memory boards, a memory bus board, a CPU, and a battery card.

Because they contain their own CPUs to manage data storage, they are a lot faster (18MBps for SCSI-II and 35 MBps for UltraWide SCSI interfaces) than conventional rotating hard disks; therefore, they produce highest possible I/O rates.

SSDs are most effective for server applications and server systems, where I/O response time is crucial. Data stored on SSDs should include anything that creates bottlenecks, such as databases, swap files, library and index files, and authorization and login information.

SSD is still very expensive for regular home use at the moment. You can read about the new Samsung 64GB SSD released in June 2007 at Samsung Debuts 1.8-Inch, 64-GB SSDs.

The process of data recovery program is the best computer backup device solution and it is the way of ensuring that backup computer files are kept protected from corruption with free software and that access to it is properly controlled on a back up server. It also facilitates the process of online file sharing. The globalization of disk recovery hardware networking is a facility with the help of which your stock can be sourced from anywhere in the world with the help of backup software.

Solid State Disk (SSD) – the next generation storage technology

tech

Trancend has released 32GB 2.5” Solid State Disk (SSD). It is exactly the same as 2.5” IDE hard disk. Even the thickness of 74mm is the same. With the IDE interface, it can be plug into any notebook or mobile disk enclosure. SSD is like RAM, it has no moving parts. Without moving parts, you will get better reliability and lower power consumption which is very critical to notebook battery.

Why I signed up for PePeePeee?!

review

I started blogging since February 2007. Why did I start blogging? Well, a friend who has been blogging for almost a year was telling me how he made money by simply blogging… by simply writing blogs?… WOW!… That sound very easy!

I got so interested with the idea of getting paid while blogging… will it be so difficult to do? Read on, and see how it changes my life so far…

So, I registered with the simplest blog host. Then I realized through research on the net, it will be better if I have my own website rather then subscribing to a blog hosting site. By having my own website, I will have all the freedom I want!

My friend was advising me to register my own url as soon as possible before I gone too much with my blog. What he meant by too much is that, it gonna be difficulty for me to transfer my old blogs to my new site once it’s ready. And it is true by the way! For that I want to thank him… “thank him” for making me an “addict”!

So you see, I started blogging because I wanted to do Pe PeePeee. I registered my URL and rented web space (and pay for it!) because of PePeePeee. I’m learning how to build contents because of PePeePeee. I’m getting less sleep because of PePeePeee. I’m getting late for work because of PePeePeee… what else can I say? I singned up with PePeePeee because I want to make money… what other reason can it be?

Will I turn into full time blogger and not worry about getting late for work because of PePeePeee? I DON’T KNOW YET! Let me make loads of money from PePeePeee first OK 🙂

Microsoft TechEd!

microsoft, teched, teched2003, teched2004, techedasia2005, techedsea2006, techedsea2007

Microsoft TechEd SEA 2007 will be held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 10th to 13th September 2007. Its going to be the 3rd TechEd SEA. The 1st TechEd SEA was held in Singapore in 2005 and the 2nd was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2006. TechEd has been held many times before in Malaysia but it was formerly known just as TechEd Malaysia xxxx. They started using the name TechEd SEA in 2005 for the first time in Singapore.

I’ve attended 3 TechEd so far… twice TechEd Malaysia and once TechEd SEA. I attended TechEd Malaysia 2003 & 2004 and TechEd SEA 2006. I skipped 1 year for TechEd SEA 2005 which was held in Singapore, the reason I did not have the chance to attend it.

This year, I’m gonna attend the TechEd SEA 2007… yea for real again!
