Waterrrr… we need waterrrr… HELP…
water January 15th, 2008Today, everyone must be pissed off with the Water Department particularly their contractor, Jetama Sdn. Bhd., who are manning the Babagon Dam at Moyog.
They cut off the water supply to the whole Kota Kinabalu, Penampang… up to Lok Kawi and Inanam and many other areas beginning late this morning and it’s going to be like this for the next 36 hours or so.
According to their notice in the newspapers, the water supply will be cut off from 2.00pm 15 January 2008 until 10.00pm 16 January 2008. They have to shut down or reduce the water production for them to do maintenance works at their water treatment plant at Moyog.

I thought the notice has been on the newspaper since last week. They even informed those areas affected to stock up on water for this 36 hours of no water.
Lucky it doesn’t affect here in the Interior 😉

There are so many questions I’d get my “media right hand man” to ask: Has the water supply ever been turned off for that long for “maintenance” purposes since it started operations 10 years or so ago? Is this standard practice, and the standard maintenance, for any dam constructed with similar purpose around the world? Water supply should be considered at least as critical, or even more so, than electricity, hence its uptime should be 99.999%, that’s 4 minutes downtime per year, meaning if 10 years, only 40 minutes downtime. Meaning to say, there was no plan B…

you are very right with the calculation anom… water is the most critical compared to the other facilities… it is so damm crazy to deny people with water for almost 2 days… and affecting a large area.
