Journey around Sabah โ€“ Kota Kinablau to Sandakan

Capresso, coffee, journey, life, sandakan, seafood

Last Wednesday, 19 August 2009, I went to our branch office in Sandakan to fix their network. Their network has been acting weird since it was struck by lightning.

We, me and two colleagues, took the road instead of flying to Sandakan. Iโ€™m getting fade up flying because you have to stick to the flight schedule and you canโ€™t carry many gears on board.

By driving, time is in your control and able to carry more gears… and of course mobility.

I was looking forward to the journey since my last journey was at the end of last year… by road too ๐Ÿ˜€

I feel very fresh when we left Sandakan on that morning. The journey is about 400km and will take about 6 hours. Depending on traffic volume, the journey can be reduced to 4 hours.

There are many big lorries and buses travelling along the Kota Kinabalu โ€“ Sandakan road, so most of the time if there are convoys of lorries or buses, we have to tail along… especially when overtaking is hard and climbing hills.

During the journey, we did not stop anyway and we travel at moderate speed… we donโ€™t want to rush… rushing is dangerous.

Since we did not stop anyway, we skipped our lunch and immediately checked into Kesington Hotel at Bandar Maju, Sandakan, around 4.00 PM.

We were so hungry… after unloading our gears into our rooms, we went out for food. We end up eating at Pizza Hut… lame… After our late lunch, we went back to our room and try to have a short rest before dinner.

I joined a few friends for dinner around 8.00 pm… seafood dinner. Here, the seafood is damm bloody cheap… you can eat prawn, fish, etc… as much as you can… you can have anything from the sea… you name it… they have it… and they are bloody cheap… like 50% cheaper than Kota Kinabalu!!!… and they are also damm bloody fresh… the taste of fresh seafood is heavenly… it just so good to chew… better than the Japanese food at Usagi in Karamunsing…

Anyway, came back yesterday and arrived home around 5.00 pm… usually I donโ€™t feel tired when travelling… but I was so tired yesterday… I took a short nap before I went to the MCSE class around 6.30 PM…

Usually I will stay alert during my journey while snapping photos from inside the vehicle… in fact I sleep enough the night before… even took two packets of 3in1 Nescafe… I actually donโ€™t take coffee… only tea… but I took it anyway, but still I feel so tired during the journey… Maybe I should have taken stronger coffee like Capresso… but every time I take coffee, my pee will smell like coffee after that ๐Ÿ˜› thatโ€™s why I donโ€™t like coffee.

The short nap I had before class was enough for me to attend the class and continue with movie… District 9… around 9.50 PM last night ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyway, gonna get some more rest today… or do more other stuff…

The day we were at Salut

appetite, eating, haze, rain, restaurant, salut, seafood, sunset, suppressant

Our group trip to Salut Seafood Restaurant on the 4 August 2009 was very exciting… There are about 15 of us… and with only 3 ladies ๐Ÿ˜›

We started our journey around 11am in few cars… in my car was Ahaz and Mike. Four cars started from Karamunsing and the rest are from donno where… ๐Ÿ˜›

We reach Salut around 12:35pm… lol that was a very slow journey… but we were snapping photos along the way but unfortunately the weather was too hazy… the rain are gone and now we are full with haze… since the past 3 days!!!

The first thing we did was to get good table location in the floating restaurant… yes the restaurant is floating on the sea ๐Ÿ˜›

We took the corner of the restaurant where there is a power outlet. The second thing was to setup the WiFi for our LAN party.

Third is to wait for the rest to arrive and to order the food ๐Ÿ˜€ We had lots of prawns, the favorites dish… steam and fried with butter… steamed fishes… clamps, not sure what type… rice… and some more dishes which I donโ€™t know the name coz I was not involved in ordering the foods… I was only busy taking photos ๐Ÿ˜›

When the foods arrived, everyone swam into the dishes… it was like 1.40pm already… everyone was hungry like mad buffalo or kalabau… ๐Ÿ˜›

I guess some should have taken appetite suppressant before they came here coz I believe some of the dishes did not reach us… those sitting at the other end of the long table… ๐Ÿ˜› But we still had enough to make us all full ๐Ÿ˜€

We did not bother with electronic gears the moment the food arrive… the AP, cables, power adapters, notebooks etc… coz the foods and our gadgets were almost mixed together on the same table…

While I was washing my hand after my food, suddenly a Happy Birthday song was played in the restaurant… I thought one of the tables is having a birthday party… maybe the Japanese or Korean table, Ahaz said they are Korean, ok ๐Ÿ˜€

The washing sink was near the Koreanโ€™s table. Then the Koreans are looking and pointing at me, and clapping… I look at our table and everyone was singing and looking at me… holy crap… you all really made the BIG surprise!!! I never thought you all plan for this… my birthday is 2 days away lah… and all of you were talking like having something on the day itself… on the 6 August and not on the 4 August… 6 August is our GI Joe outing bah… GI Joe screening on my birthday… yuhoooo…

Anyway, THANKS guys and gals… love the Secret Recipesโ€™ Chocolate Cake… if I knew someone brought Chocolate Cake, I would have not whack the prawns… ๐Ÿ˜›

I will make the photo album of the trip soon… ๐Ÿ˜€

But for now… take a look at the pictures ๐Ÿ˜€ … . . . Continue Reading »
