Because of the ‘super lightning’ last Wednesday night, 21 January 2009, I have to spend a few hundred bucks to replace my broadband Linksys modem router. I was not the only one getting a barbecued modem that nigh, but two of my friends also had a modem barbecue party that night. You think you get what you paid for?

Broadband is everyone business nowadays. If you are on the net and you are not on broadband, you are like at the slower world.

As far as broadband service at my place, streamyx and jaring is the only two wired service you can subscribe. Majority are on streamyx and I myself subscribed to streamyx… the cheapest unlimited usage 😀 because I’m not a heavy downloader.

Jaring is also providing satellite backup line. I heard Sutera Harbor Resort is using Jaring and they have satellite backup connection.

Actually, there is no point for us to subscribe to Jaring’s wired broadband because it is riding on TM/streamyx infrastructure. So, when the TM infrastructure facing problem, so do the Jaring service 🙁

As for wireless broadband… I think you can forget about it, as far as my place. Maxis, Celcom and DiGi are only able to provide EDGE or GPRS speed. Some areas will get 3G… and probably HSDPA by Maxis and Celcom. But I guarantee you, you will not be satisfied with the service quality & performance… It will be as fast as a dial-up service sometimes or  much slower… it will not worth the money you pay for the mobility service.

Anyway, if you want to test your connection speed… download & upload… try www.speedtest.net, the results is more realistic than the streamyx speedometer which I think is cheating the whole streamyx subscribers. Why I said that? Well I had the chance to setup a DSL at 1.5Mbps upload and download. The TM technician shows me using their speedometer and it shows 1.2Mbps++ for up/download. When I test it using speedtest.net, it shows almost the same results… that was when they completed the wiring.

After 2 weeks, the DSL started giving problem. When I test it using the speedtest.net, it shows more like ADSL… 1Mbps download and 512Kbps upload. But when I test it using TM’s speedometer, it shows 1.1Mbps up/download… that’s why I said their speed test is cheating the whole streamyx subscribers.

wow… my streamyx has not DCed me

wow… my streamyx has not disconnected since I surf for the past 2 hours.

This afternoon, Telekom (sabah) called me… it was a missed called, coz I did not hear my phone rang. When I saw the missed call, I was not sure whose number was it, so I return the call. The lady ask me to call their on site technician. So, I called the technician… he said he will come over to the house later… after I explained the whole problem againnnn…


Then around 4.30pm, they came but I’m still at the office… I ask him to check my connection. After about half an hour, I called him again… he said my line is OK, VERY GOOD… but he said my wiring quite old… and giving all kind or excuses why I got DCed… my connector was not spared, he said my connector is not suitable coz I used electrical connector… ooo crapss… as if I donno about electrical.

Then I said I’ve been using the same thing for over a year… then just to make him happy and getting ready for my trick… OK I will find a contractor to re-wire the whole line… then I gave him my “super trick”… “or maybe you know a good contractor”… instantly he said, YES!… 8)

He suggested to me to re-wire from the DB… craps!.. I asked, who going to pay for the wire… he said YOU LAH!!! I said, that’s not fair, Telekom should wire up to my house, I only wire inside… he said, if I wants good signal, that’s the best, they will pull the wire from the DB all the way to my router… without cutting the wire… I said see lah first…

Then I asked again… how is the line quality now?… he said VERY GOOD… 8) oooo OK… what happen if I still get DCed tonight… he repeat his excuse about my old wiring… then I fire my GOLDEN BULLET… “but u said the line is VERY GOOD… how can that be”… his answer start tumbling… pitty on him… and I know I won already… I just said… OK lah I see how izzit tonight first… 8)

Streamyx still in ku ku mode

As of now, streamyx is still in ku ku mode. Some sites are reachable and some are not.

Telekom only announcement is “We wish to inform our customers that Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) will be performing a service upgrading exercise on its system at Maluri, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, 2 October 2007 from 10.30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 10 October 2007…”

I’m not sure if my eyes is still asleep… but 2 October 2007 to 10 October 2007 is 8 DAYs… OMG!!!

My Streamyx Went boo boo…

My streamyx went complete dead yesterday!!! It has been making nuisance for couple of weeks… it will get disconnected from time to time. It happened before somewhere in July-August but it went OK after sometimes. But the past 2 weeks was horrible… then on Sunday it gets horrible… it like disconnecting every 1 or 2 minutes… the ultimate was yesterday when it completely gone.

I called streamyx at 1300889515 and explained my streamyx problem… but the weirdo on the other side insist that I must use modem to get the ‘error code’, else the weirdo can’t do anything!!! I ask him to reset my port… but he insist on the bloody ‘error code’. So I hang up and turn my router into bridge… I have to call a friend since I never set my router to bridge… after getting the bloody ‘error code’, I called them again… then another ‘monkey’ answered… I repeat what I’ve said and done, again… and I insist he go and reset my port… he said wait, he will do something on the server… then put me on ‘music’… it took him so long that the music repeat 3 or more times I think before it went dead… damm monkeys…

Then I called again… another ‘monkey’ answered… then I told everything again, that his ‘monkey’ partner is doing something on the server before I got disconnected… this time he insist I use direct, don’t use splitter… dammit… I said OK, will do it… then ask, what happen if it still don’t solve my problem… he said, he will pass the problem to their ‘monkey technician’… so I hang-up… remove the splitter and tried on my first router… then my second router… still the same… I should have just lied to those monkeys from the beginning…


So, I called again… this time a female monkey answered… I said this is my ID and I’ve done everything they ask me to do, and this is the “fourth time” I called… I repeated that 3 times… then said it again in BM… “ini kali ke-empat” two times… told her that the third monkey ask me to call back to inform her that they need to pass the case to their monkey technician… then she said, ok, I need a minute to write my report and put me on music… again… waited… waited… the music repeated 2 or 3 times I guess… before she came back and gave me the report number… I asked how long will it take them to rectify the problem… she said “normally 2 days”… 2 days!!! Are they are nuts or bananas… damm… bloody monkeys… then she said, you can call back tomorrow afternoon… so I’m going to call them later….

It took me almost 3 hours to do all the craps… so next time, I will just lie to them about the error code… that I’ve removed the splitter… will just say “done” to all whatever test they want… just to please them… don’t ever waste your time with monkeys…

Now, I have to see how long it will take for their monkey technician to rectify the problem…
